[-i'ȓalgo], amtlich Villa de Guadalupe Hidalgo ['vija-], 1931-51 Gustạvo A. Madọro, mexikanischer Wallfahrtsort im Distrito Federal, im nordöstlichen Vorortbereich der Stadt Mexiko. Die alte Wallfahrtskirche Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe wurde 1709 an der Stelle eines Vorgängerbaus errichtet, wo die heilige Jungfrau (Nationalheilige Mexikos und Schutzheilige des Unabhängigkeitskampfes) 1531 dem Indianer Juan Diego Cuauhtlatoatzin erschienen sein soll. Durch Senkung des Untergrundes wurde die Kirche so stark beschädigt, dass sie geschlossen werden musste. Ein Neubau in der Nähe wurde 1977 eingeweiht, das Gnadenbild »La Morena« dorthin überführt; Wandbilder u. a. von D. Rivera.
 
Der Frieden von Guadalupe Hidalgo beendete am 2. 2. 1848 den Krieg zwischen Mexiko und den USA um Texas (1846-48, Mexikanischer Krieg). Mexiko musste das Gebiet nördlich des Rio Grande (Texas, Neumexiko, Oberkalifornien sowie Teile der heutigen Staaten Arizona, Utah und Colorado) gegen 15 Mio. Dollar Entschädigung an die USA abtreten und verlor so fast die Hälfte seines Territoriums.
